  • ECU PINS DIFFERENCES/SIMILIARITIES

Sooo, I am searching, looking around for the information I'll be needing in order to plug-in and use the '88n/a 5 speed federal ecu on the '87T(5speed federal) build I am doing.
*I am not having very good luck locating the ecu pin outs and descriptions for the various years(84-89) and models(n/a, turbo, calif, federal).
**Once upon a time, I had saved off from z31.com, information that showed the ecu pins and functions for various years...it is currently lost.(If I locate it, I'll upload it to this thread)
***Has this information been covered, and I'm just missing it?
    thanx,
    Dan

    Notes:
1 most control voltages seem to be negative such as fuel pump, injectors and the Ignition coil. Because of this, a good ground is important!
2 The injector wiring difference between T’s and NA’s might be a contributing cause to hesitation’s after the injector campaign. There is not much of a difference between the T and NA’s wiring, most notably the difference in wiring of the FICD and AAC valve on the T’s and FICD and Idle-up solenoid on the NA’s.
3 not many differences between the 84 and 86, notably the lack of the fuel pressure regulator control module (pin #115). Also noted are the lack of the headlight switch (pin #22) which probably effects the idle speed and the addition of the AIV (air injection valve) on the 86 models.

The actual ECU pinouts are the same as far as I remember... that is, you can put any Z31 ECU into any car. The differences are in the engine wiring harness. You have to swap a few pins around on the harness where it connects in the car (for things like fuel pump, etc).

I suppose this means that as long as I know the pinout of the ecu...that now I go to the EFI to Body harness with a multimeter and check to make sure that it is leading to the appropiate sensor or location.
      Fun Stuff.
Seems I'll be taking notes for the '87T. In regards to what changes had to be made to properly support a '88n/a ecu.
I'll be doing the same later this year for the '88t...taking notes as to what changes had to be made to support an '88n/a ecu.
*(I know the obvious O2 sensor differences)...it's just the actual wiring colors/locations similiarities/differences that are of the unknown.

I pulled out the FSM when putting an 88 harness in an 85 car.

I needed to swap 3 or 4 wires around on the engine-body harness plug as I recall. I know one was the coil/power transistor and maybe fuel pump? I should have written it down... but all the information is right there in the FSMs, just compare the two diagrams.

yeah, I have an 86 fsm on cd...I have the white paper back version of the fsm for the 1988 models...and now, I just ordered the 1987 model year paperback fsm
*I know I can view these online, it just sucks balls to do it that way....I like having complex diagrams on paper in front of me.
**If this comes up in anyone elses romulator/NisTune adventures...take notes on what you found with your scenario and post it here in this thread. Maybe we can gather enough information to add to the current romulator sticky...and make it even more informative than it already is.

I think the thing is that most people don't swap the engine wiring harness when they do a engine/ecu/injector swap, so it's not commonly known that there is a difference in the body harness side.
