New tool fabricated, and a question
So i've been monitoring the engine break in in a few ways, one being cutting open the oil filter and examining the particulates trapped in the element. For a recent program i've been taking, a project was to fabricate a tool, i decided to make an oil cutter. The problem i've run into is, this is a new-er style made by Champion for aviation filters, larger diameter than typical automotive filters which the older style Champion cutter could handle.
My solution is to ether lengther the slide on a mill or drill and tap new locations on the base plate so it can cut smaller diameter filters, being 200mi away from my Z makes it difficult to get a measurement on the OEM filter for the VG33, so could any one help me out with some numbers? :-D

I usually just use a pipe cutter, looks like it's the same concept though, just with the cut at a fixed depth.

I have a 10 or so year old pipe cutter from rigid that I use, just like what OK85ZX posted.
The only thing you have to be cautious about is overtightening the unit. Going around in endless circles produces a better overall cut rather than puncturing the filter and trying to scrape through the damn thing.
Buying a pipe cutter gives you two tools in one :-P
cool tool, though! -

Ultimately i would like to mount it inverted to the picture on a flex head like a desk lamp to prevent drippage and mess -
