Cam gear washers
Quick question - the washers that go between the bolt and the cam gears have a bevel on one side. When I removed mine, the bevel was facing toward the cam gear, but this seems backward to me. Seems like the completely flat side ought to face the cam gear. I'm not really sure why there is a bevel, because the head of the bolt is not wider than the flat portion of the bevelled side any way. Is there a "correct" orientation for these washers?'86 NA - original owner (1986-93) and final owner (2005-present)

Well, I wouldn't be surprised… doesn't look like much work was done in the engine (no mods, for sure) but I suppose it's possible someone went into it to fix a cam seal leak. I know the short water hose has been replaced, which I guess can be done without the rear timing cover off (but it would be a challenge). I did have a chance to look at the FSM diagrams, and none of the views I found show the bevel on the washer. Thanks for confirming what my eyes told me looked right.'86 NA - original owner (1986-93) and final owner (2005-present)
