While I'm at it?
Well I had to give up my lisence last week for 3 months, so I have 90 days to work on the Z and make it even faster haha. So far the things to go on I already have are:
Flex-a-lite black magic 15" electric fan
Russ's adjustable cam gears
MGP Gutted intake plenum
SR20DET 60mm throttle body
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
HKS turbo timer
Now my question is, while I have the plenum off is there anything else I can do while I'm at it? I'm doing some cosmetic stuff like painting the rocker covers and replacing the lifters while I'm at it, but I'm just curious if anyone else has any more suggestions as what I could do during my break from driving. I was thinking of ploly mount everything but what other ideas do ya'll have for me? I'm on a fairly tight budget after buying all my goodies to go on, so nothing too extreme. Also forget fuel, I'm working with the stock fuel system for now until I got the coin to go nuts on it. Thanks! -

port the heads! If you want I can send you the plans for a flowbench and you can flow test the heads… if you've got a good shop-vac then the rest of the flow bench can be had for under $2008.5 custom arias pistons (.020 over)
eagle rods
t70 turbo (man was that a squeeze)
38 mm external wastegate
mild port/polish
3 angle valve job
custom intercooler piping
twin external intakes with z32 maf
rad moved back
3" exhaust with only a resonator
romulator
420cc injectors
custom body work, homemade oil lines and fittings..
walbro 255lph in-line fuel pump.... and lots of headaches… lol -

I live in Australia and my state is real small and crappy, I dont think there is anywhere that could help me out with that or anyone I'd trust more accurately. What is involved in porting the heads? Sounds a little more complicated than what i had in mind for the moment… -

don't worry about it, half the people on here telling you what to do are noobs too
make a goal, decide a budget, explain any situation or mitigating factors that might help or hinder you (such as location).... and we should be able to suggest a workable plan you can afford
honestly I've spent almost $2600cdn just working on the car, and I haven't even touched the motor.... if you include the two parts cars I have bought, add another $900 minus about 520$ worth of stuff sold off them.... so the turbo swap is paid for already
so 3 grand and I have a corner carver that looks like arse, but I have 2 spare motors to blow, and auto-to-manual swap is free for the n/a tranny, the turbo 87 will need a "custom" driveshaft ....
I set a budget 3 years ago of $5k -

Well the car is already intercooled, 3" full exhaust, bov and a few other things. I was just more for looking for "to-dos" while I have the plenum etc off, rather than creating a giant list of future mods and creating a budget around.
The car in question is here by the way, I'm not doing fuel yet but basically looking to do everything but until the stage where I need to upgade the fuel system. This is the first VG i've actually worked on so I'm still learning as I go pretty much and just wanna know what else I should do while I'm at it putting on my new goodies. -

Just replace the plenum gasket. Everything else is so much additional work that you would be tearing into the engine much much further to do. -

Right… What about some poly mounts for everything? What do they cost these days? -

Other than the "full kit + crossmember" those 3 links should pretty much sum it up. TSS or MSA is probably you best bet on the poly suspension items. My vote goes to Dan at TSS.
All that stuff isn't cheap when added together and the suspension pieces will take some time and effort but well worth it in the end. 8)
Show them my motto....Just stand back and throw money.
Performance costs money.
Reliable performance costs more. -

If you are putting cam gears in, you might as well throw some cams in while you are at it, stiffer valve springs, and of course since you are in there with the cam gears, do the water pump and thermostat, chts and tensioner."If you don't hold it....you don't own it" -

Ive actually been looking at some cams, I missed out on that group buy for the schnieder ones but I'm still looking at some other options. I'm just hoping that anything USDM regarding cams is transferable to here for the JDM vg, I dont see why it wouldn't be though.
Water pump is new, not sure about the thermostat and I know my CHTS subharness needs changing… -

Yeah but it's not practical for me to ship my cams all the way to the U.S, it'll cost me more in shipping than the cams themselves!
