hood pins, what have you used?

Where the hell did all the history go?

I have a carbon fiber hood and need hood pins. I ordered some really nice flush mount aerocatch and the pins are TOO LONG for a z31....I need to go more old skool as there is not enough clearance to do flush. What have you guys used with good results? I am guessing a sparco would be probably my next bet. I don't want hood pins but with Carbon the air gets under the hood and it's scary. Also, the reason I have a carbon fiber hood is because my stock hood flew up .. I do not want this hood going anywhere.

Where is everyone? WHat happened to all the awesome info on this site? Major z bummer.

Good to know about the carbon fiber hood. I've been sitting on one for years and haven't installed it yet.
Couldn't you mount the pins to an L bracket and put them behind the crossmember, that would give you more
    adjustment for height.

Or is it the body of the aerocatch that bottoms out on the crossmember.

It's been kinda slow around here for awhile,

    and some changes

Hey, thanks for the info. It's a shame this site had all the good info from so many people. I could do what you are saying with a z shaped bracket but my fab skills aren't the best so it would probably not look so great and then there is the intrusion further into the engine bay. I haven't sent them back yet, so I am going to look at it with a clear head again tonight. Thank god I didn't cut the hood out before I realized the pins were too long

I also am having some issues with the hood itself that have kept my car off the road for a while as it didn't come finished. It needs a lot of sand and prep to get the pins and mold imperfections out, then a good shot of clear with UV otherwise its going to yellow carbon fiber. I got this from MSA a couple years ago and have been cursing myself for it as I could have just took the car to a body shot and had a matching metal hood for less than the carbon fiber and now I can't find a shop around here (in the back woods) that knows how to work with carbon. I am going to have to do all the prep and then pay a shop probably 500 to clear it.

Oh fun, it does look pretty damn sweet though.

I have aerocatch hood pins on my Proudear CF hood with no issues. I mounted the actual pins to the 2 support pieces that run perpendicular to the radiator support by the OEM intake. You need to line up the actual aerocatch pins on the hood where the support pieces are first, install, then mount the pins onto the support 2nd.

There are a lot of ppl that run aerocatch on their z31

For some reason I cannot find a way to embed pictures into the forum.
