That's the knock sensor. There is a grey boot and a connector missing.

I'm sure when you go to fix it that you realize it's a shielded wire.

KInda like a mini coax cable.

Isn't it a spade type connector that goes on the end? With that said any particular way I need to repair it? I figured I'd just be crimping a new connector on..

Its a wire within a woven wire shell.

The top picture on this page is a piece of coax cable used for cable tv and such.

    http://blog.rfvenue.com/why-coaxial-cable-goes-bad/

The wire on your Z is just a mini version of it.

make sure when you crimp the spade terminal on the end you only make contact with the center wire.

If you make contact with the shielding it will just ground out the sensor and never read any kind of knock.

Okay, since it takes me so long to get around to doing stuff I have figured out that it is NOT the knock sensor; there is an intact plug in the same strand of the harness about 1.5ft rearward that plugs into the knock sensor… any other thoughts?
