Stock rear brake pads don't slide in, help?
I'm redoing the brakes on both my '86 z's (first time doing brakes on a Z) and I'm putting in new pads. On the rear pads the existing pads and the new pads do not slide onto the shims. They seem to snap or be pressed onto the shims. Is this right? And if so how/where do I position the pads? Any help is appreciated.

Kinda late but I used needle nose pliers to bend the shims just a little as the pads didn't go in through the sides. -

I've noticed more and more that aftermarket pads aren't machined to the best tolerances. I've had to grind the pad's plates so the fit smoothly in the caliper. -

I just dealt with this over the weekend. I ended up pulling one of the bolts that holds the bracket to the caliper and slid them in that way. I used a flat head to push on the shim so it open a little so the pad would slide right in. the first one I did took almost 45 minutes to get the pads in. the second one I did, less than 10 minutes.
