    vg30 w-series heads on 33 block

Can someone verify that two holes need to be drilled into the head for water passages when fitting vg30 w-series heads onto a 33 block?

If I recall there was a writeup on z31.com that listed the mix'n'match options for heads and blocks, but it came down to which headgasket for a/b vs w-series vg30

Since you have a vg33, you effectively have a larger w-series, you have to use the vg33 gasket, and that's it…

That's at least how I understand it

If you're using a W-series head on a OWO block with a HG made for a OWO head, the gasket will be lacking the holes for the coolant passage the W-series head has. They will have to be drilled.

The main reason I advised against W-series heads on a OWO block in the VG33 info thread is due to the coolant passage being so close to the combustion area. I'm not saying it would fail, but it would seem more conservative to use the A/B head, or more so the OWO due to better casting and flow characteristics.

Best bet is to use a VG33 head as it has better intake ports and larger exhaust studs…flows better overall. If your VG30 head has been ported, just redo the work on the 33 head - its entirely worth it especially being a ported OWO head out-flows even ported Z31 heads.

Cool. I was just wondering as i'm in the market for a short block and wanted to keep options open. Engine packages have gone up quite a bit in price at the junkyards

I put vg33 heads on my vg30et w series block casting for casting the 33 heads are ten times better smoother larger combustion chamber and intake runners ect. loving them avery step of the way.

I just emailed to you the Nissan Service Bulletin with the A/B and W series differences and parts compatibility between the 2 engine types..

ok, I'm doing a vg33 swap to my car and I'm using my stock turbo set up for it. any advice on anything I can use off my stock vg to gain more power or be a upgrade? I was kinda planning on using my vg30 for another build, but if I need to ditch that idea to make my track car better, i'll just do that.

    thanks

    A VG33 head will be treated like a W-series head. A VG33e head will use a VG30 A/B head gasket if used on a A/B series block.

you use a W series gasket if it's a W series VG30, and if putting the heads on a VG30, you use a VG30 gasket anyway.

I'm not doing the head swap, I'm just asking what could I use off my vg30 to make my vg33 better?
