It's was interesting .. the Ferrari next to me got lots of attention (as it should) .. but a lot of "kids" .. 5-10 (or so) and > 40 .. "showed the love" of the Z31 .. LOL!'84Z31 GLL turbo|theZenthusiast site: http://www.thezenthusiast.com |

These

With this ..

To achieve this ....

I wanted these wheels in '84 .. But having just purchasing the Z .. I couldn't afford these. At the time, they retailed at $800-$900 per wheel.'84Z31 GLL turbo|theZenthusiast site: http://www.thezenthusiast.com |

Too busy for the car, fine if you do gtc laps and need ultimate aerodynamics with good brake cooling, but standing still they won't look good after the initial giddy feeling wears off

I think they look much better without the covers, but I do understand that the covers are total unobtanium and are bad ass because of that.
SSR EX-C are damn rare. If you're into the fins though, I know that Weddsport also used to make them back in the way (Weddsport Bavaria). I think some old Works wheels also had the fin style. I haven't seen a set of those covers, ever, though. -

HA .. If I ever get that chance .. I'd break out the covers for sure!frostvectron;346817 wrote: I think they look much better without the covers, but I do understand that the covers are total unobtanium and are bad ass because of that.

I agree .. the EX-C aerofins look better without the covers .. but you get the idea. The covers are nearly impossible to get (more so than the wheels). BTW .. the covers fit the SSR meshies too!
I totally get what you're saying regarding "function" .. I saw the "covers" in action on a 930 back in the day .. it was just after a rain .. the pavement was still damp. The water spray from the wheels as the covers sucked the "wet stuff" out was visually impressive. LOL .. my Z doesn't typically get out in the rain (I won't say it's never been in the rain .. or never will be in the rain ever again .. stuff happens) .. but for me ? The covers would be strictly for "show" purposes and even then .. on/off depending on the venue.G-E;346791 wrote: Too busy for the car, fine if you do gtc laps and need ultimate aerodynamics with good brake cooling, but standing still they won't look good after the initial giddy feeling wears off
Too busy? Perhaps .. but I wanted to stay away from the "BMW mesh look" (Everyone's got 'em) . My thinking was .. polished/chromed fins and lip (as in the pic) but have the inserts painted to match the color of the car. I've seen those wheels in a silver/satin finish .. chromed .. and gold-chrome. The gold-chrome is HOT, but I don't think the "blue" I have can pull it off well.
