Factory crossovers?

    Factory crossovers?

Does anyone know where the factory speaker crossovers are in the Z31? I replaced my door woofers with some new pioneer splits but wanted to bypass the factory crossover for the tweeter. Is it on the tweeters under the dash or are they in-line somewhere?

    Much appreciated.

Hold on, what. There are tweeters under the dash? I've been in the dash of my 85T plenty of times, and I swear I've never seem them. AE option or something?

There are. Check the perforated sections just above the vents on either side of the dash. I'm not 100% on if they are GLL specific or not, but the location is the same regardless.

Speakers in the corners of the dash below the perforations was a GLL trademark only IIRC.
All other models had no speakers and no perforations.

Ahhh, OK. That makes sense. I thought he meant "under" the dash as in near the foot vents, lol. Interesting. I never thought those were anything other than dash perforations (stock radio was tore out when I got the car and I ran all new wires to the doors when I put a radio in). Interesting! Learn something new every day.

While I can't speak for all, I know of two non-GLLs that definitely have the dash perforations.

Now I got to look back, I have a GLL model and have nothing up there. Lets see if mine was GLL.

Edit....Just checked and my model is definitely a GLL. But I don't have any tweeters up there at all…just the holes and nothing under. I can see the windshield from the lower part of the dash.

My car definitely has tweeters, the right side of the dashboard produced music with no woofer in the door!

Asking because I found a plain black box with what looks like speaker wire going into and out of it where the carpet meets the dash on the left hand side (passenger for me), two sets of Red and red/white wires going in/out, same as front left speaker, and one set of white/black that were cut, but couldn't find a box for the right side. And the left tweeter doesn't work.
I'm thinking aftermarket. If I feed those wires 9v and hear a pop, i guess I'll know!

@ Mitch 03 I'm pretty sure Z-bum and I are referencing USDM cars and their set ups as far as which dashes have speakers and which dashes do not.

Being down under with a RHD car, your car could conceivably have more in common with JDM models than ours. Its entirely possible non GLL cars set up for the Japanese home market or available for export to your area of the world could be set up with different options.

Well if you need photographs to understand what a black crossover box with wires sticking out is like, I don't know what else to say....

As for the other topic, you're right, I haven't proved my designs are flawed, no one has proved they're flawed either, it's all fear mongering

To be fair. G-e's bbk and bss have done really well in my garage performance testing, aka hard parking.

Very likely. Anyone ever been able to get to the tweeters without removing the dash? Would be interesting to compare at least, and nice to hide the aftermarket ones.
If not I'll just surface mount my tweeters and chop the old wires.
