Why the Z32 trans? Why not something out of a 350 or 370? Or even something like a 6 speed out of a Frontier?

At least besides the obvious, you already have it.

The Frontier gears are a bit taller through the first few, but you could compensate with the rear end if it was an issue. Not like you'll be lacking in torque.

    Frontier Six Speed Manual Transmission

Drive First Second Third Fourth Fifth Sixth
    2WD & 4WD 4.368 2.518 1.743 1.283 1.000 0.769
    http://www.vibratesoftware.com/html_…tier.htm#Trans

    Z32 Gear ratios are: 1st 3.21, 2nd 1.93, 3rd 1.30, 4th 1.00, 5th 0.75 for the manual.

    For comparisons sake…

    The f-body T56 ratios are 2.66/1.77/1.30/1.00/.74/.50. The GTO T56 has a 2.97/2.07/1.43/1.0/.84/.63
It wouldn't be too far off from the GTO ratios if you geared down at the rear end a bit.

I imagine part of it is that he already has what he needs for the z32 trans aside from a starter. Plus the z32 30a is known to hold 600+hp, and 5 gears > 6 gears when the final ratios are basically the same.

On a different note, since you are doing this if my VG pops I'll have to figure something out to get a TB48DE over here if I want something nobody has done with a z31 yet.

My Brother in law has fitted one to his brand new jet boat build, does 107 kmh on a 3 stage Hamilton jet no problems.

According to the marine calculations for Jet units it makes it around 400hp. The thing i found interesting is how they don't run a fuel return off the rails. Andy had to tig weld fittings to his so he could run a conventional fueling system to suit his ecu.

I already have the z32 trans in my Z now. I still have the z32 bell housing sitting in the garage. So yup, all I need is a z32 starter.
AND get this! The crank of the vk56 accepts the flywheel of the z32, no modifications!

    Pretty straight forward!
you might have to use a spacer for the z32 flywheel. the starter might have to be shimmed because of thickness differences in flywheels between na and t. the starter is the same between na and t.

The VK56 in the Titan, Armada, and V8 Pathfinder run a constant 51psi from the fuel pump. Nearly all Nissans with returnless fuel system run 51psi.
