i dont know Russ, and i don't know who built his motor- I also don't really care to know.
is it at all possible that his motor just wasn't built "properly" or the best of the platforms capability, and made a poor power figure/output that everyone seems to see as a baseline nowadays?
i have a hard time believing an N/A L28 is capable of 100whp more than a same compression ratio vg30, and that its a "well known fact" that vg30's can't reach the same power levels.
to me, that seems more like bullshit. -

nissan went from 153bhp to a 170bhp with a 10 percent displacement increase, and a set of different head castings.
there absolutely no reason that with a much hotter cam and a better set of heads with a compression ratio that is 4-5 points higher, coupled with a lighter valve train, lighter rotating assembly, and less drag due to accessories could not produce more than 220whp, let alone 220bhp.
i dunno, that's what i think, anyway.
this whole "Russ did this" or "SATAN did this" stuff has to be buried under the rug.
they did some cool things with this motor- but i'm sure there will be bigger and better things, or there already is or has been. -

Whatever guy. You had a basically stock NA engine other than cams, with crappy stock log manifolds and stock compression and you want people to believe you made more power than any of the full-on NA builds? Its bullshit and you know it. I'm not butt hurt at all because I don't give two shits about NA VG30Es, they're slow as hell and always will be. I think you're the one who is butthurt because he got called out on the fact that if your car hadnt had a turbo on it, it would not have made 230whp. -

to me, that seems more like bullshit.Well, a227700 would be proving you correct. So, yes Russ's build seem like low numbers but then again mr 510 just dynod his race vg powered 240sx and I think it made similar numbers with a very close CR. I was told by a little birdy that after the dyno session a set of NASH heads were going to open it up some more. Time will tell on that build. I do wish we had a few more vids of a22770's builds...... -

that sounds more reasonable.
i have been in contact with a person who put together an RB30DE with lightweight Ti valvetrain, lots of head work, stepped tube inconel headers, some 13.5:1 pistons, and some 302 degree cams or something, can't quite remember.
he has dyno sheets that indicated 380bhp @ 8300 RPM. Which is about 320whp or so.
RockyAuto Japan also has a yellow 240z with an RB30DE which makes the same… 380bhp.
so it would seem the numbers don't lie.
for a head that flows much higher than the SOHC head, that seems pretty spot on, no?
probably not the best comparison, but I don't think it would be lower than 280… that's a 100hp difference. that's far too much of a variance considering the work that went into both motors. -

Progress is still very slow but I do have guides and seats made. Will hopefully put them in this weekend. Did end up going with the moldstar 90 for the seats and moldstar 22 for the guides.

They've been NLA in international hands with ridiculous asking prices, sitting right next to the adjustable rockers. Get a set of OWO work em and jek off -

wtf is your butthurt eye hole seeing? this is a thread where SOMEONE BOUGHT the Nismo heads, etc. and was working them, but clearly dropped of the thread. I'd like to know how far he got, or what happened to them. I on the other hand plan to run OWO, or more likely 85E (I think) heads after working them.Damn dirty angels....these cars!

I thought it was kyle? And if I recall I saw a thread on some other forum where he was contacting one of the electromotive guys who said he may have some info… but then the thread trailed off like this one… -

They're unworked castings, that basically means unless you have a flowbench to match flow rates with experienced porting work you're pissing money away on a fresh set of not only old cast mould heads - but a homebrewed dremel port job that doesn't get the full potential of the heads.
Seriously, there's some VA junkyards that are likely to have some OWO heads ready to pull that update internet inventory each week. I could refer you to some scrappers who would sell a VG33 Long block if you'd like to have extra pieces around.
You going to hit Ztoberfest this year?
